How to Prepare for IELTS Exam

Why is taking the IELTS exam necessary?

It’s possible that you are aware of the minimum score on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) that you need to achieve in order to pursue the employment or educational goals that you have set for yourself, and it’s also possible that you are working towards that goal by studying for the exam. But, in order to improve your scores on the IELTS Academic test, have you given any thought to the extra advantages that may be gained from studying for it in more depth? Here are the top five choices that we have!
  • Your proficiency in the English language will be evaluated in a way that is objectively based. It’s possible that your peers have complimented your command of the English language, or that you’ve consistently shown strong academic performance. But are you completely aware of your current level of skill? If you decide to take the IELTS exam, you will be evaluated based on the most demanding IELTS standards that are used internationally.
  • You will be awarded a certification that is recognised all over the world. You may acquire a test record that is acknowledged and accepted by hundreds of institutions all around the globe if you take the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam. These institutions include corporations, colleges, professional organisations, and government agencies.
  • Your mastery of the English language will improve as a result of this. Some kids are more interested in developing certain skills than others. Listening, reading, writing, and speaking are the four skills that are evaluated when you take the IELTS test; hence, you need to work on improving all four of these abilities if you want to have a successful test experience.
  • You will have an enhanced comprehension of the English that is necessary for your work. If you take the IELTS Academic test, you will have a better comprehension of the language that is necessary for studying English at the undergraduate or graduate level.
  • You will have a distinct goal in mind, which will motivate you to put in more effort in your studies. If you do not have well-defined goals and objectives, it will be quite easy for you to postpone your studying until another day. Taking the IELTS exam will drive you to put in the effort necessary to enhance your English language skills.

IELTS Exam Update 2023

IELTS IDP has made it possible for academic test takers to complete the IELTS online exam (IELTS Indicator) from the comfort of their own homes because of the COVID 19 outbreak. The IELTS indicator test is available even in countries that have been hit hard by the coronavirus and have had to close their testing centres as a precautionary measure. The IELTS indicator also evaluates the candidate’s proficiency in each of the four language skills. It is unclear to applicants whether the TOEFL or the IELTS is the more beneficial examination to demonstrate English language proficiency. Students who choose to further their education in the United States are required to take the TOEFL, but students who wish to study in the majority of European countries must take the IELTS.

IELTS Exam Booking

Candidates have the option of registering for the IELTS exam either online or in person at their neighbourhood IDP office. Test takers in India have the option of selecting a test centre location from among the 80 IELTS testing centres that are spread out across the country. There are no precise IELTS eligibility criteria. It does not matter a person’s gender, age, race, religion, or nationality; everyone may participate in it. IELTS candidates must be at least 16 years old in order to take the exam. The following is a list of the processes for registering for the IELTS, which can be done online or offline:

IELTS Online Registration

Registration for the IELTS exam may now be completed in a matter of minutes. The IELTS examination might be scheduled in one of three different stages. Candidates are required to access to the official IELTS website first, and then they are required to:

  • Create a new user account.
  • Determine an acceptable date slot by taking into account the availability of testing facilities for the IELTS that are close by.
  • You may finish registering for the event by paying for it online.

IELTS Offline Registration

To register for the IELTS exam, candidates need to obtain the registration form from the official website. Choose the examination date by hand, and then fill out the rest of the form’s requirements. The candidate is then required to make payment in the form of a demand draught or cash. The demand draught should be made in favour of “IDP EDUCATION INDIA PRIVATE LIMITED, Payable at New Delhi” (to pay cash to visit the nearest ICICI bank with a payment slip). Candidates are required to provide an address that may be reached by Blue Dart courier on the registration form.

How Should One Prepare for the IELTS Exam?

  • Self-study and participation in coaching programmes are the two approaches that may be used to be ready for the IELTS. Your level of familiarity and ability in the target language will determine which option is best for you to pursue. If you already have a strong command of the English language, you do not have to take part in any tutoring sessions; rather, you may prepare for the test on your own. Your sole task is to figure out when you should start getting ready for the IELTS exam.
  • Self-study is also an option worth considering if one is concerned about financial constraints. However, bear in mind that in order to study on your own, you will need access to the most up-to-date preparation ideas for each section of the IELTS exam. This is a must for independent study.
  • On the other hand, taking coaching classes is a wonderful choice if you don’t have enough time to study on your own and require the supervision of an expert for the exam preparation process. Because going to classes on a consistent basis will eventually become second nature to you, you’ll become more efficient at managing the time you have available to you.

The total of your band scores from each of the four sections will determine your overall IELTS score. You will receive IELTS scores on a scale ranging from one to nine depending on each of the four skills, in addition to an overall band score. You have the option of scoring in full bands (for example 5.0, 6.0, and 7.0) or in half bands (for example 5.5, 6.5, and 7.5) for each individual component of the examination. If you want to have a better idea of how your score on the IELTS will be decided, you need to have some awareness of how the scoring system works.
